He is a God that calms the storms…

Tonight as I walked home from a friends it began raining quite heavily and it was really stormy and as usual when I’m walking I began chatting to God and I kept saying  ‘Oh Lord please make this weather stop until I’m home’ etc I find it so easy to pray for other peoples problems but when it comes to me I sometimes feel selfish being like ‘God I need prayer for this, this, this, this and oh these things too’ so when I was walking back I just really felt God saying to me ‘You’re so quick to cry out to me when you’re in a physical storm but when you’re in an emotional storm you try and carry the burden, come to me and I will calm your storm’  this reminded me of Psalm 107v28-29 ‘Then they cry to the LORD in their trouble, and he brings them out of their distresses, He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed.’ and Psalm 65v7 ‘…Who stilled the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, and the turmoil of the nations.’  So I’m reminding myself to cry out to God in the midst of my storms and I hope that you do too as he is a God that calms the storm!

  1. I do the same with the weather thing and am learning with the rest. And sometimes he responds immediately. I remember one day with record rain fall. It was probably coming down harder then I’d ever seen it and I really was in the mood to walk so I prayed “Father, please stop the rain for 10 minutes. It can rain again as soon as I’m there.” Well, it was still raining but I felt so strongly that he’d said “yes” this time. So I put on my walking shoes and headed out the front door instead of the garage where the car was. It stopped. The sun came out. I got to work dry as a bone. Less then 30 seconds after I entered the work building i heard the loud rumble of thunder and it started back up again. Wow! And to tell me it was no coincidence, He stopped the rain once more so that I stayed dry on the walk home too. I wasn’t the least bit surprised when it rained all night starting the moment I shut my door behind me.
That being said, this isn’t always the case and I’m learning to accept the “no” as well.

    • That shows that he is a God that answers our prayers!!! and i think it is so easy to cry out when we’re in a physical storm, but when we’re in an emotional one personally i think its harder?

  2. All too often I make prayers like a kid in a candy shop, a lot like you described (I want this, and this and this and some of those…) Definitely has me thinking about not just talking with God but listening too.
